Major Gifts

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law is grateful to the following donors who have made major gift commitments since July 1, 2021. Major gifts are gifts of $100,000 and up that are either designated for a specific purpose or support the Law School generally. Anonymous made two generous gifts totaling over $500,000 to support a named professorship.

Anonymous made a generous commitment of $150,000 to support the Center for Racial and Disability Justice.

William J. Benitez (JD-MBA '09) made a generous $250,000 gift to establish the Benitez Family JD-MBA Endowed Scholarship at Northwestern Pritzker Law.

H. Carol Bernstein Eckstein (JD ’85) and Martin Eckstein made a generous gift of $100,000 to the Thomas F. Geraghty Fund to support the fellowship at the Bluhm Legal Clinic. Additionally, they made another $100,000 gift to support the work of the Center on Wrongful Convictions and the Environmental Advocacy Center.

Howard L. Chapman (BA ’56, JD ’58) made a generous gift of $100,000 in continued support of the Howard and Betsy Chapman Law Scholarship Fund, which works to promote scholarly work in business law, trial advocacy, or trust and estate law.

Dan Clivner made a $100,000 commitment to support the Carter G. Phillips Center for Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy within the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

Steven K. Davidson (JD '85) and Claudia Callaway made a $100,000 commitment in support of the Law School Annual Fund and the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

Barbara V. Davis and Michael W. Davis (JD '75) made a $100,000 commitment to support the Carter G. Phillips Center for Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy within the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

Kelly Deere (JD ’92) made a $125,000 commitment to support a staff attorney within the Bluhm Legal Clinic as well as support the STAR Fund.

Christine Evans (JD ’03, LLM-IHR ’11) made a $113,000 gift in support of the Evans LLM-IHR Scholarship at the Law School.

Jonathan L. Entin (JD '81) and Carol Conti-Entin have generously documented an estate gift that will be used to establish a scholarship at the Law School to be known as the Jonathan L. Entin Endowed Scholarship.

Brian Fahrney (JD '92) made a $100,000 commitment to support the Carter G. Phillips Center for Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy within the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

Drew S. Fine (JD ’87) generously pledged $100,000 to the John L. Taros (JD ’87) Memorial Scholarship.

The Ford Foundation made a $100,000 commitment to support the Center for Racial and Disability Justice.

Nicholas L. Giampietro (JD ’87) generously pledged $150,000 to the John L. Taros (JD ’87) Memorial Scholarship.

William J. Gibbons (BA '68, JD '71) generously documented a $520,000 bequest expectancy to support scholarships at the Law School, as well as our Bluhm Legal Clinic, and its Center on Wrongful Convictions.

Steven A. Gold (JD-MBA ’85) generously committed $250,000 to support our Media Law & Government Transparency Practicum, which is a pathbreaking course that brings law and journalism students together to engage on crucial questions of government transparency and press freedom.  

Pamela L. (MMGT ’95) and Michael A. Gordon (JD ’92) made a generous commitment of $100,000 to support the Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center, a comprehensive program that provides thorough training for students who wish to become transactional lawyers or founders of start-up companies.

Robert W. Hammesfahr (JD ’78) generously committed $100,000 to support the Law and Technology Initiative, an exciting partnership between the Law School and Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering. In collaboration with both internal University partners and external legal organizations, the Initiative operates at the intersection of law and technology sectors.  

Tom Hawkins (JD ’86) made a $100,000 gift in support of the LGBTQI+ Rights Clinic.

Adam L. and Denise Hoeflich made two generous commitments totaling $265,000 in support of the Innovating for Impact Fund and the Center for Racial and Disability Justice. Adam is a professor at the Law School and a trustee of the University. 

Stephanie Hosler (JD ’99) made a $100,000 commitment in support of the Hispanic/Latinx History and Culture Endowed Scholarship at the Law School.

Jack Jennings (JD '67) and Steve Molinari have generously documented an estate gift that will be added to the Jennings Molinari Endowed Scholarship that they established in 2019.

Nicole L. (JD ’99) and Jeffrey H. (JD '99) Knox made two generous gifts totaling $450,000 to support the Knox Conversations Series, which aim to support research and promote important dialogue, public debate, and the open exchange of ideas on matters of importance to the legal and Law School communities.

Jordon L. (JD ’97) and Jackie Kruse continued their generous support of the Kruse Family Scholarship with multiple gifts totaling $700,000.

Thomas M. Ladner and Julia L. Meier made a $100,000 gift in support of the Center on Wrongful Convictions.

Chris (JD ’94) and Carol Lind gave a generous $100,000 gift to support the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

William M. Lyons (JD ’81) generously documented a $100,000 bequest that will provide unrestricted support to the Law School. 

Harsha G. Marti (JD-MBA ’02) made a generous $250,000 gift to create the Marti Family Fellowship at Northwestern Pritzker Law. The gift will help establish a new visiting assistant professorship program for underrepresented groups, helping to advance crucial diversity, equity, and inclusion goals at the Law School.  

Lydia Marti (JD ’86) and Richard Porter made a $250,000 commitment to endow the Lydia Marti ’86 and Richard Porter Scholarship at the Law School.

Lanny (BBA ’68, JD ’73, H ’22) and Sharon Martin generously committed $200,000 to the Innovating for Impact Fund. The fund provides the opportunity to invest in strategic priorities that are most critical to the future of the Law School and our students.

Terri Mascherin (JD ’84) and Tom Abendroth (JD ’84) made a $350,000 commitment to support a staff attorney within the Bluhm Legal Clinic as well as support the Center on Wrongful Convictions, and the Law School and Bluhm Legal Clinic annual funds.

Yvette Ostolaza made a $100,000 commitment to support the Carter G. Phillips Center for Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy within the Bluhm Legal Clinic.

Daniel (JD ’86) and Karen Pritzker generously pledged $250,000 to the Media Law & Government Transparency Practicum.

Qualcomm Incorporated committed an additional $240,000 to support the Law School's Center on Law, Business, and Economics, which studies the impact of laws and regulations on economic growth and communicates the results of that research to academic, public policy, and judicial leaders. 

Jerry M. Reinsdorf (JD ’60) made three gifts of $100,000 each to support the Law School Annual Fund.

Terra Reynolds (JD ’02) generously committed $100,000 in support of the Law School Annual Fund.

Rivers Casino made a generous commitment of $400,000 to support the Rivers Casino Criminal Justice scholarship, which is given to students who demonstrate an interest in wrongful convictions representation, scholarship, and criminal justice reform.

Linda K. Smith generously documented a $100,000 bequest to support maintenance and upkeep of the Law School's Quadrangle Garden.

Sherrese M. Smith (JD ’96) and Adé Heyliger made a generous $250,000 gift to establish the Sherrese Smith (JD ’96) and Adé Heyliger Endowed Scholarship, providing scholarship support for students who will add to the Law School’s diversity.  

Thomas Thesing made a $100,000 commitment to support the Carter G. Phillips Center for Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy and the Carter G. Phillips/Sidley Austin LLP Supreme Court Clinic within the Bluhm Legal Clinic.  

Mark (JD '85) and Kimbra (BA '85) Walter made a generous gift of over $125,000 in support of their Walter Family Scholarship at the Law School.
